HERE AND NOW
A year and a half ago, I set out to create a space for the underrepresented creatives, under appreciated artists. I set out to create an all-inclusive platform. I set out to document the teenage mind. I feel I’ve done just that. Over 18 months, we have featured 370 pieces from 46 different artists; Beautiful Bizarre Magazine has been a place of refuge for every artist ready, willing, and able to give all of them. To openly self-express. To bleed everything they had onto their canvas. We reached out and invited these artists into a community that only becomes increasingly competitive. We followed the journeys of these artists through their formation of the identity, specific styles, inevitable self-doubt, and resurgence. I thank them for their bravery and for their honesty and I thank you for being receptive, for being there.
After all of this, I leave you. I leave hoping you will stay inspired, hoping you can face your fears, stay in the here and now. Be strong, be bold. Be absolutely disgusting and stunningly beautiful. Look back on what you’ve seen, what you’ve done, take a breath, and move forward.
SUMMER 2019 is dedicated to the painters, poets, rebels, originals who can rise above. BOLDER, OLDER
And as I leave you and move onto a new phase of my creative life, a metamorphosis perhaps, I offer up one final challenge. Look back on the last 18 months. Where were you in November 2017? Stuck? Where were you? How were you? How have you changed over the years? Where are you now? Who are you now? I’ve used this platform to document all of me. To show you the challenges of growing up as a young, teenage artist. Through creative ruts and artistic highs. Through emotional triumph and the loneliest of heartbreak. Through a renewal and a realization. I can look back at this and say with great confidence ‘there I was and here I am’. I am older and I am bolder. Are you?
